Recently, the Independent Vets of Australia (IVA) team joined their global counterparts in Sweden for the VetFamily 2022 Conference. The conference provided a unique opportunity for colleagues worldwide to network and gain a broader understanding of the various ways we in each country support independent veterinary clinics to improve today and be ready for tomorrow, thus allowing practices to focus most on what they do best, improving animal health.

With our joint commitment to support independents around the globe we took a broad look at the mutually beneficial industry relationships we have with partners worldwide. These include distribution partners, pathology providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and many more. We workshopped with colleagues from different countries on the importance of our global values: caring, collaborative, accountable, respectful, keeping it simple. Colleagues discussed how these can be brought to life through an active culture internally and more importantly with practice members and valued industry partners.

Looking into the future of our industry, breakout sessions included discussions around sustainability and our ambition to focus on solutions for the future of people, animals and our planet. As sustainability becomes a more important focus for not only businesses but also pet parents we delved into the impact we can have as a key partner of practices and our role in supporting sustainability. We looked at a pilot program which has been rolled out by our colleagues in France which by early indications has been successful in supporting practices to implement simple, yet impactful solutions in clinic relating to energy, eco products, recycling and more.

IVA is proudly part of VetFamily and supports independent veterinary practices here in Australia. VetFamily is the largest purchasing and business partner for independent veterinary practices in the world. Together, our global colleagues and the IVA team here in Australia support over 5,700 independent veterinary practices across 15 countries.

Overall, the conference was a great opportunity for the IVA team to connect with colleagues on a global scale who share the same vision of being the natural partner for independent veterinary clinics and suppliers. Its our joint ambition to help our members to improve today and be ready for tomorrow.
